In the tradition of legendary Jazz pianists Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson, Champian Fulton's new release is an intimate house concert recorded live on tour for Cellar Live Records. Joined by longtime friend and musical partner, Cory Weeds, on alto sax, this minimalist setting gives the listener the opportunity to hear Champian's piano unfettered by bass and drums. Similarly, this duet setting gives Champian's voice a freedom and spontaneity unheard on previous recordings. From Cory's beautiful saxophone cadenza that opens the recording on the title track, "Dream a Little Dream of Me," the mood is set. Other highlights include "Fly Me to the Moon," performed in its original waltz meter, "I'd Give a Dollar for a Dime," popularized by Joe Williams, and the super swinging Eddie Lockjaw Davis arrangement of "Save Your Love for Me." At the risk of being sentimental, "Dream a Little..." is sure to put a smile on your face.
